How to get more genuine Google reviews for a local business in India
Before people call or walk in, most of them look at your Google rating and the latest reviews. Many happy customers would write one, but nobody asked them, or the link was hard to find. This guide covers the simple, policy-safe way to collect more genuine reviews.
Step 1: get your review link
In your Google Business Profile, look for "Ask for reviews" or "Get more reviews" and copy the short link. Opening it takes customers straight to the review box, without searching for your business.
Step 2: turn it into a QR code
Paste the link into our free Google review QR generator and download the PNG. Put it where customers wait or pay: the billing counter, reception desk, table tents, bills and the bag or box you hand over.
Step 3: ask every customer, at the right moment
- Ask at the end of the visit, when the service is done and the customer is happy with the result.
- Keep it short: "If you have a minute, a Google review really helps us. Here is the QR."
- Send the link on WhatsApp the same day. Reviews drop sharply after a day or two.
- Ask everyone, not only the customers you think are happy.
What Google does not allow
Google's policy on fake engagement does not allow paying or offering anything in return for reviews, writing reviews for your own business, or asking only satisfied customers (sometimes called "review gating"). Breaking these rules can get reviews removed or your profile restricted. Genuine reviews from real customers, collected steadily, are worth more than a sudden jump.
Step 4: reply to every review
- Thank people by name and mention what they liked.
- For a negative review, apologise, keep it calm and invite them to contact you directly. Future customers read your reply as much as the review.
- Reply in the language the review is written in. A Telugu review answered in Telugu feels personal.
- Reply within a day or two if you can.
Step 5: keep the profile itself complete
Correct timings (including holidays), real photos, your services and prices where they apply, and a WhatsApp link all help customers who read your reviews take the next step. Make a free WhatsApp link with our WhatsApp link generator.

Talk to us on WhatsAppCommon questions
How many reviews should I ask for each month?
There is no target number. Ask every customer consistently; a steady flow of recent reviews looks more trustworthy than many reviews at once.
Can I remove a bad review?
Only reviews that break Google's policies can be reported for removal. For a genuine bad review, a calm, helpful public reply is the best response.
Should I reply to old reviews?
Yes. Replying to older reviews still shows people reading your profile today that you listen to customers.
